(Our 56th Season!)

Sept. 21 - Oct. 7, 2007
Dearly Beloved
by
Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, Jamie Wooten

The Futrelle Sisters, Frankie, Honey Raye and Twink, are throwing a wedding.  Twink’s desperate attempts to get her boyfriend of fifteen-and-one-half years down the aisle, Frankie’s ongoing conversations with their dead mother, and Honey Raye’s tendency to race to the altar at every opportunity have kept tongues wagging for years. In spite of her own marital problems, Frankie has held steadfastly to the hope that she can pull off one “final Futrelle occasion” with elegance and style with the help of the cantankerous wedding coordinator. But on the day of the nuptials, Frankie’s hope begins to dim when she discovers Twink’s alternative solution to an expensive catered wedding dinner is a potluck supper sponsored by Clovis Sanford’s House of Meat. The sisters ultimately pull together to find ways to keep the unsuspecting guests in the pews while a highway patrolman races off to track down the runaway bride and groom.

Light Sensitive by Jim Geoghan

Thomas Hanratty was once the most dangerous cab driver in New York.  He was blinded in an accident and is fading into a routine of self pity. His bartender and only friend is moving to Vermont with a new lady friend, but he can't abandon Tom. He recruits a volunteer reader who battles her way through Tom's shell. By the second act, they are falling in love.

"Geoghan brings his characters to life and the audience to its feet cheering." L.A. Times

The Nerd by  Larry Shue

One of the funniest plays ever written!  The action centers on the hilarious dilemma of a young architect who is visited by a man he's never met but who saved his life in Vietnam—the visitor turning out to be an incredibly inept, hopelessly stupid "nerd" who outstays his welcome with a vengeance. "Shue delivers a neatly crafted package that uses some classic comic forms to bring the audience to its knees, laughing." —Milwaukee Journal.

"…the audience almost never stops laughing—handkerchiefs wiping away tears of merriment…" —Variety. "…a spring tonic of side-bruising laughter…" —Milwaukee Tribune.

Blithe Spirit by Noel Coward

A classic comedy written by Noel Coward, the ingenious plot tells how novelist Charles Condomine invites into his placid country home an eccentric, breezy lady medium in order to learn the language of the occult. Little does Charles or his lovely second wife, Ruth, dream that the seance staged by the medium will summon back Charles' first wife, now "passed over" for seven years. But the lady from beyond appears and torments Charles by reminding him of their days and nights together. Only Charles can see or hear her. The first wife has a ghostly plot in mind which makes for an hilarious conclusion to this very unusual farce. Hilariously funny, brilliant, clever and about as cockeyed as a play can be!
